Thanks to the generosity of a West Virginia University P.I. Reed School of Journalism alumnus and his wife, more SOJ students will be able to gain valuable career experience through internships. John Walls, a 1978 SOJ graduate, and his wife Cindy have established the John and Cindy Walls Career Development Fund at the School of Journalism.

West Virginia University journalism and creative arts students will have the option of a new minor in interactive storytelling starting in fall 2014. The blended Interactive Media Design minor is a new collaborative effort between the P.I. Reed School of Journalism and the College of Creative Arts, which aims to prepare students from both fields to become interactive storytellers across a range of digital platforms and devices.

West Virginia University P.I. Reed School of Journalism senior and documentary filmmaker Tyler Channell is headed for Hollywood. Channell’s short film, “Enough is Enough,” has advanced to the final round in the Social Justice category of the Campus MovieFest, which bills itself as the world’s largest student film festival.

This summer, a group of students from the West Virginia University P.I. Reed School of Journalism have stepped outside their comfort and time zone. Seventeen of the School’s strategic communications students have traveled to China for a monthlong learning experience that will forever change how they see their place in the world.

The newly named West Virginia University Reed College of Media (formerly the P.I. Reed School of Journalism) begins its 75th year on the WVU campus with a new name, upgraded facilities and new curriculum. On Monday (Aug. 18), College of Media students were the first to use the new Alexis and Jim Pugh Media Innovation Lab on the second floor of Martin Hall.
